Position Description / Responsibilities:
Virginia Riehl saw the future of health care 30 years ago while managing one of the first networked health care delivery systems in the country. Throughout her career she has been at the forefront of health care innovation.
Her work with Electronic Health Records began in 1978 and has included the earliest and most comprehensive applications – PROMIS, COSTAR, VA/DHCP, and Epic.
She was on the executive team that implemented and managed the first government-run Federally qualified HMO.
She managed the transformation of a policy memo into the plans to redesign the DoD health care system.
She worked with leading experts and NCQA to develop a road map for the evolution of information systems to improve the quality of health care.
After the tragic 2001 anthrax attacks, Virginia helped the eHealth Initiative bring together IT industry leaders to develop biosurveillance mechanisms.
For the Connecting for Health project, Virginia led a team of health data standards experts in reaching consensus on standards for sharing health care information.
Virginia also knows how to roll up her sleeves and work with the front lines of an organization to ensure the success of IT launches and operations. She has successfully led teams of internal client staff and consultants to manage inpatient, outpatient, managed care, and clinical trials applications. She has been on call 24/7 to make sure that systems were available when users needed them.
