Our kickoff meeting focused on the much discussed topic of knowledge management. Knowledge transfer solutions are increasingly being used by health care institutions. Three speakers addressed this topic and had an open dialogue with the attendees, aimed at understanding the value proposition of knowledge management and relevant case studies.
Our first speaker was Doug Sears, Director of Performance Improvement at Bon Secours Health System. Mr. Sears discussed his hospital’s effort in the development of knowledge and innovation exchange towards building a unified organization.
Susan Hanley, Leader of business solutions practice for Dell Professional Services and an expert in knowledge management, shared her observations and a case study from the Johns Hopkins Nursing Institute. Doug Goldstein of eHealthcare also provided an introduction to the topic and shared a case study from his own experience.
We also received a briefing from Dr. Andy Barbash of the Medical Records Institute on a new patient safety coalition called SOS Rx, sponsored by the National Consumers League and Express Scripts. The purpose of SOS Rx is to make the outpatient use of medicines safer.
We also heard updates on regulatory developments, including those stemming from the new Medicare bill.
