Our March Health TechNet meeting focused on the challenge of access, cost and quality of care improvements to be managed by primary care physicians and ancillary providers as this will require major re-alignment of incentives and technology available to primary care givers.
The meeting featured the presentation of Dr. James Thiel, Regional Medical Director for Walgreens, who described what his company is doing with technology to improve the quality of care in new medical settings, such as wellness centers, pharmacy acute care centers, and medical learning opportunities across state lines.
We also reassessed the implementation of new EMR systems by primary care physicians in light of the Medicare and Medicaid incentives offered under ARRA, among other initiatives and provided updates on the status of healthcare reform legislation in Congress.
The presentation of the speaker was followed by an active discussion among our members.
