Issues Relating to Clinical Trials: Offshore Locations, the JANUS System; and Recruiting Patients

5/16/08  Back

Our May Health TechNet meeting focused on new issues and developments relating to human clinical trials of new medicines and diagnostics.

The meeting featured the presentations of Michael Ross, MD, President of CPL, who provided us with an overview of clinical trials in new drug developments; Risë Phillips, MPH, MBA, Director of the IMPAACT Operations Center and senior professional at Social and Scientific Systems, who provided us with a presentation on technological challenges and strategic opportunities regarding clinical trials; and, Sandeep Bagga, Ph.D., Scientific Advisor (Life Sciences) to Vision Point Systems, Inc., who provided us with a presentation on contemporary trends in IT systems and technologies in clinical trials.

All three speakers covered key issues regarding this important component of medicine and health care, including outsourced trials, the internationalization of the clinical trials process to multi-site and offshore locations, data and outcomes information management, and the recruitment and protection of research volunteers.

These presentations were followed by an active discussion of other matters of interest to the Washington area technology community.

Presentations of the speakers are attached.
