Misconceptions, Confusion, Naiveté, and Silliness: Five Random Real World Observations on the Transition to Value Based Care & Reimbursement
5/20/16
Back
Our May meeting was held on Friday, May 20 at Nelson Mullins’ offices in Washington, D.C. The feature topic was a discussion of a variety of new physician payment methods that are developing in response the Affordable Care Act, the Medicare Advantage program, and private sector efforts among commercial insurers and hospitals to incentivize physicians to provide high quality care with greater efficiency and accountability. One of the most important developments due to come into effect is the MACRA program under Medicare (the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 and its Merit Based Incentive System (MIPS). MACRA will have a significant effect on the way physicians are reimbursed pursuant to value based payment systems. Joining us to present on MACRA was Nathan Bays, who is the General Counsel and Executive Director of the Health Management Academy. Nathan is a frequent speaker around the country on this subject and is a true expert on this legislation and its implications. Also discussing new payment developments were several of our members who are involved in designing and implementing new physician payment models: Scott Mason with ECG Management Consultants, Suniti Ponkshe of Optum, and Scott Pickens and Jamie Solak of the Arlington Health Group.
