Our May Health TechNet meeting focused on the challenges faced by community and rural hospitals in meeting the requirements and standards of the HiTech Act, meeting meaningful use requirements, and using technology to provide patient services.
The meeting featured the presentation of June Collmer, the Interim Executive Director of the Virginia Telehealth Network. Ms. Collmer is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she received her B.S. in nursing. She received her M.S.N at the University of Virginia, where she also completed the pediatric nurse practitioner program. Ms. Collmer received her Juris Doctorate from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1997 and practiced for twelve years focusing on health law and contracts. She was with the University of Virginia Health Services Foundation for eight years, where she was Associate General Counsel. She is licensed as an R.N., N.P. and attorney in Virginia.
In addition to Ms. Collmer's presentation, we heard from several representatives of local healthcare systems about the challenges they are facing in meeting the requirements of the HiTech Act and the healthcare reform bill.
The presentation of the speaker was followed by an active discussion among our members.
