“Interoperability – what is the vendor community doing about it?”

6/19/15  Back

Our June meeting of Health TechNet was held on Friday June 19 at Teqcorner in McLean, VA and the feature discussion was on “Interoperability – what is the vendor community doing about it?” Our speakers were Scott Stuewe from Cerner Corporation who discussed the CommonWell Health Alliance, a consortium of over 20 health IT vendors, who have come together to attack the problem of interoperability. Also, David Kates, Managing Director for Interoperability at The Advisory Board, spoke about the Argonaut initiative and the ongoing development of the FHIR standard. We also heard an overview from HealthTechNet member Tom Bascom of emerging developments in registering and aligning standards through cloudsemantics.org. David Main of Nelson Mullins also reviewed the provisions of the 21st Century Cures bill and the current climate surrounding this legislation on Capitol Hill, which among other areas, addresses the problems of interoperability with a new initiative.
