Past Meetings

Our fall kickoff meeting of Health TechNet was held on Friday, September 18th from noon to 2 pm at Nelson Mullins’ offices in Washington, D.C. The feature topic was an examination of the ongoing and increasing threats to the industry in cybersecurity, which is now recognized as part of a well- organized and criminal undertaking of international proportions. Providers and insurers are facing ever more burdensome and expensive responsibilities to safeguard confidential patient information or face lawsuits and other enforcement actions. We discussed the nature of the threats, ways to confront them, and recommendations for dealing with breaches. To examine these issues, we had a panel of knowledgeable speakers familiar with this problem, including experts from General Dynamics, Fairfax Neonatal Associates (a large physician group in Fairfax, Virginia serving Inova hospitals), and a private security consultant who advises providers and insurers on this problem.
