Our November Health TechNet meeting was in-person and virtual, held at Nelson Mullins’ offices in Washington, DC.
The feature topic was “The New Healthcare Consumerism” and the primary speaker was Jane Sarasohn-Kahn, MA, MHSA. As a health economist, founder of Health Populi blog , author (HealthConsuming™: From Health Consumers to Health Citizens, 2019) and advisor to organizations focused on the intersection of health, technology and people, Jane shared her perspectives on recent trends in the healthcare space involving companies that “know consumers.” For example, consumer-centric companies are diversifying their healthcare offerings, at scale, including "Amazon plus PillPack plus One Medical;” "CVS plus Anthem plus Signify Health;" and "Samsung plus b.well." We explored what this means for consumers as well as other key healthcare stakeholders (e.g. providers, payers, policy makers, pharma and medtech companies).
During this exploratory discussion, Jane engaged in a conversation with Dr. Richard Singerman, PhD, who kindly organized this meeting and led the dialogue, guiding us through an exploration of the relevance of “The New Healthcare Consumerism” to the field of health information technology.
